Making the Most of a Reiki Session
A Reiki healing session holds the potential for deep transformation, and you are lucky if you have booked one for yourself. Many book a Reiki session as a last resort because nothing is working, while others want a healing for help in dealing with life situations. Unless you seek out this healing simply for the sake of it, chances are that you have an agenda – and this desire could be the very thing that undermines your healing session.
When we want something very intensely, our body tenses up and prevents a free flow of energy. When we rest in surrender on the other hand, a free flow of energy is possible and a lot of blockages can fall away quite quickly.
Before the Session
To best prepare for your Reiki session, open up to the energy’ as much as possible. Intentions and affirmations are great, but we forget that the energy knows best what is wrong and what needs fixing. So if you can invite the energy in and request it to do whatever needs to be done, and really open up, then you can experience miraculous changes.
To enhance this, you could also request the energy to start the healing just before you go to bed for a few nights before the session (Reiki sessions are not bound by time, people can receive the benefits before as well as till much after the healing) and to heal you all night in preparation for the healing. To do this, just lie on your back and invite Reiki into your system, inviting it to do whatever is needed to prepare you for a powerful healing on the planned date. This will help to drop away any subconscious resistance you might have towards potential changes.
During the Session
Be honest with the healer.
At the beginning of the healing session, invite the energy in and request it to do whatever is needed. Preferably do not make any specific requests, because you can receive much more than you are asking for. Stop trying to control the outcome: Let go and let God.
Being aware of your breath and your body during the session will help you make the most of it. Deep and conscious breaths help to create bodily awareness and connection with yourself and your practitioner, and it allows the energy to flow through you and integrate within you more easily.
After the Session
If the healing is very deep, sometimes there is a strong desire to sleep. If this is possible, go ahead and get all the rest your system is asking for.
Drink plenty of water, as this helps your body to flush out easily any toxins that Reiki is trying to release.
Try and keep your food clean – if you avoid alcoholic beverages and non-vegetarian food for a few days before and after the healing session, it would help your body receive much more. This is not a mandatory rule, but following it improves the absorption of energy and the release of toxins.
If you are feeling floaty or spaced out after the session, try spending some time walking barefoot on the grass or walking in a park. Eating root vegetables will also help.
