Healing Trust Issues
Everyone has different ideas about what a relationship represents, but almost all of us will agree that a relationship – at least, a happy one – cannot exist without trust. Inevitably, there are times in life when someone we love, someone we trust, lets us down. This can be extremely painful and can cause a drastic shift in perspectives sometimes, causing people to lose trust in people altogether.
Why does this happen?
We are all born with instincts and intuition to help us identify and avoid danger. This also means the capacity to see the basic nature of people and knowing what to reasonably expect from them. Unfortunately our upbringing erodes our connection with our inner selves, and we cannot access this information anymore.
The end result is that we live life blind, basing our assessments of people on expectations and hope. And eventually when we get hurt, we’re left sore and confused, knowing deep inside that this could easily happen again and we still don’t have the tools to ensure that it never happens again. People choose two approaches – either they choose to trust anyway, ignoring the pain of being hurt, or choosing to never trust anyone again in a bid to never get hurt. Both approaches eventually cause pain.
How do we get out of this?
With Reiki, becoming aware of a problem is often all that is required. If you become aware that you are distrustful of people or that you trust too easily, don’t try to ‘fix’ this. Simply let this issue rest in your awareness.
We have to understand that blind lack of trust in people is no different from a blind trust in people – ultimately both are blind. Sensibility is in learning to SEE and learning to tell the difference between those who can be trusted and those who cannot be trusted. We may make mistakes once in a while but mostly it works just fine.
You will not be able to get out of the ‘cannot trust people’ mindset until and unless you learn to ‘see’ – and this is what Reiki naturally helps you with anyway, provided you are self-healing everyday without an agenda. So it is a shift you will naturally experience over a period of time – like when you see strong wood, you know you can sit on it, you don’t need ‘trust’ there, you know the basic nature of that wood. Similarly when your understanding of people deepens, trust comes naturally when your eyes are open. If you want to work further in this direction, you could also start practicing deep listening.
